Tactical role -playing game meets us terribly obsolete interface, which is partially due to the time of the action of Jagged Alliance 3 (but still leaves not the most pleasant impressions). Which is by no means bad, given the widespread nostalgia for those times.
Our hero – the character remaining behind the scenes, the role of which is played by the player – can easily contact mercenaries around the world. The one, for example, is incredibly healthy, but oak oak, this explosive master, and the other is an incredibly talented doctor.
It is important to understand that each of them has its own price – and at first you cannot conclude a contract with elite mercenaries. In addition, we pay specialists for their time. We can hire someone for a week, another-for a couple of days. So that in a couple of days he went about his business (taking with him everything that was in his inventory at the time of the end of the contract). And yet, whatever you say, for this little time you are very tied to your fighters and try not only not to risk them on missions, but also to continue to hire them if possible.
By typing a team for the first task, you are pleasantly surprised when one of the mercenaries offers to hire another … specifically this girl. Well, of course, just developers advise you the best combinations of class classes. But even more steeply observe the development of relations between your "employees" during the passage. So, the first mercenary begins to actively roll up to the one we hired on his advice, and the girl sews him no less actively. Little things, but so funny!
And, of course, in the course of the game, performing certain actions, we improve characters' skills. Plus to everything, the experience is accumulated over time, which pours out in new levels and additional perks. So take "newcomers" for little money and pump it as you need is definitely not a bad way.
This is how the interface for hiring new mercenaries and improvement of characters looks like. On top of the top – the current date and balance in the account.
With the support of a couple of fighters (alone, it is better not to go to the mission in principle, especially at a high level of complexity), we move directly to the game. Jagged Alliance 3 offers us a relatively small but designed card, where each square is a particular location. During the first hours we will visit the rocky area, and in the jungle, and in an abandoned bunker, and among sands, and in villages … The variety of landscapes pleases. And at the same time, it seems that there is nothing that would be completely in place here.
It's nice that the deeper the forest, that is, the further you go to Jagged Alliance 3, the more opportunities the player has directly on locations. That is, yes, you can initially hire the best fighters to quickly deal with enemies. But here there is a good cache and a skilled cracker is required, and here we need an explosive specialist … And many local secrets will remain among the corpses and rare survivors if there are no professionals in different directions in your team.
Some of them will provide you with additional cash, someone is valuable intelligence, while others will simply make the passage of the mission a little easier. Allowing, for example, not to break the open, but to bypass the fortress of the enemy, passing the minefield. Of course, neutralizing all traps.
By the way of intelligence. At first, it seems that this is completely useless information that acts as words like "You received information about the square B2". Why do I have some kind of square b2? It would be better to give money … But when you arrive at the right place without “intelligence” and understand that you landed right near the opponent group, you regret that you have not gone to the location from the east. I would not have to die several times in a row.
We begin our journey on the Western Island and gradually capture, we will improve all new territories. Or give other orders on a strategic map: for example, train a militia, craft things or just relax.
Most of the time in Jagged Alliance 3 we will spend in specific locations, performing tactical tasks. First of all, destroying enemies. And here everything is simple (and especially simple if you played, for example, in the last Xcom ).
You arrive on a map and see where you can profitably settle down to start a combat operation. The height, like fences, walls or natural obstacles, give a bonus to protection – full or half. If necessary, the character can bend down or completely lie down on the ground. In this case, any activity is spent on the points of action. This applies to movement, and treatment, and shooting, and reloading weapons ..
Attacking enemies, we see what factors affect the success of the hit and what prevents him. For example, the enemy stands in the shade, and we shoot with a burst – it turns out not as accurately as in the case of a single shot. In addition, aiming at the case is easier than in the legs, arms or head. Although if you get exactly between the eyes (and even having made Crete), the damage will be many times more. Also, the likelihood of hitting can be increased if you spend the action points for additional aiming.
That is, the course of one mercenary in battle may look like this: stand in full height, aim at the enemy (or, for example, an exploding barrel), shoot, and then lie down in a back (points are spent on all these actions). And you can use abilities like running and shooting at the nearest enemy. Or take the defense and give the Overwatch command to shoot at those who are approaching the allocated area.
Under the image of the character – his equipment and weapons. On the right is that each of the fighters of the detachment in a backpack. There should be tools like scrap (if we want to hack), and cartridges for the weapon used. Otherwise, in the middle of the battle, we will stay with your bare hands.
But, of course, we do not forget about grenades (both fragmentation and light -school), C4 or good old knives, which can be much more useful for rifles, machine gun, shotgun, machine gun or pistol. Sometimes stealth is simply necessary. Although it is implemented here by no means perfectly.
It’s quite difficult to sneak up to the enemy from the back, sometimes our character simply does not fall (although, like in XCOM, there are no prerequisites!), and the inability to hide the corpse (so that the patrol passing by does not notice the dead) gives you headlong. Well, you have to adapt to the game.
First we determine where we will strike. Then we bring our fighter to the enemy and click on the attack.
According to the plot of Jagged Alliance 3, our main goal is to free the president of the country of Grand Chien. He was abducted by either terrorists, or political competitors who dream of establishing their power here. But, of course, going through the plot, we will carry out secondary tasks and make decisions that can both bring momentary benefits and somehow influence the story in the future. It is difficult to talk about the latter, but in the short term, for example, we can make a decision and immediately get what is more necessary: a conditional reputation or money. Or avoid battle in the next location.
But what to do with local residents? Is it to spare a bandit who promises to take revenge, but whom the peace -loving father loves so much? Whether to leave the overseer in power for slaves, who will bring more profits? Whether to let him go or simply execute?.. The developers note that some solutions will be able to influence something globally. But, alas, so far, after the first few hours of the game, it was not possible to check it. The more interesting it will be to see the final version of Jagged Alliance 3!

Jagged Alliance 3 so far leaves a pleasant impression. Alas, it was not possible to evaluate the localization, and in English it is quite difficult to completely immerse yourself in what is happening (nevertheless, it is not yet possible to do without an online translator for individual terms, and it is more difficult to perceive new information in English). It is also not particularly clear how tactics will look at the later stages of the game, when your fighters become real terminators. Will it be just as interesting to shoot crowds of enemies or go through stealth, as at first? And just – will they improve stealth?..
And yet the game is incredibly fascinated, forcing to pass missions one after another. Having won in one clash, you begin to think about the next, change plans, experiment and go forward again … Let's see which Jagged Alliance will appear on the release – the game will be released this summer only on PC.
