Dreamforce 2016 recap

Granted, Sales Cloud is a massive product, with lots of screens, but 2+ years for a new UI is clearly in negative record territory for any leading SaaS vendor. On the flipside Salesforce is making the right moves to make developers faster and more efficient – when it happens for platform developers and ISVs, it also happens for Salesforce in house developers. How much will be built in the next 12 months will give an answer to that.

  • In 2015, Salesforce acquired multiple companies for undisclosed sums, including Toopher, a mobile authentication company, Tempo, an AI calendar app, and MinHash, an AI platform.
  • The goal with AI is to help surface information and proactively help the sales team, turning CRM into a tool that can assist and suggest in a much more prescriptive way.
  • With it, they acquired the talents and expertise of CEO Richard Socher, who immediately became Salesforce’s Chief Scientist, contributing his deep learning and natural language processing knowledge.

They call itSalesforce DX– developer experience, and it’s a really big deal. This was interesting for a few reasons, but primarily because Salesforce already had an enterprise-grade solution for business intelligence, called Einstein Analytics. As data is quickly becoming one of a company’s most valuable assets, it’s imperative to be able to dissect this data to make informed Model-View-Controller design pattern decisions. Since the acquisition, Einstein Analytics has been rebranded as CRM Analytics. With over 55% of people on Earth owning a smartphone in 2013, it was about time that Salesforce took a focus on mobile. Before 2013 Salesforce had a mobile application called Salesforce Mobile, which gave you access to a select amount of your information from your phone.

I added this to the list because we at Arkus are very proud to have officially made this pledge in 2016 and also to promote it. If you work for a company that hasn’t made the pledge, I recommend you talk to someone to help make that happen. A lot has happened and has caused more anxiety and separation then togetherness. Elections, terrorism, and social issues has overshadowed a lot of the good that has happened this year and it’s important more than ever to give thanks for the good that has happened. Salesforce for one has not only had a good economic impact but also a tremendous social impact.

To be recognized by Salesforce for my contributions to the community via social media, in the success community, via my blog, etc. with this year’s #AwesomeAdmin award at the Boston World Using React Devtools Tour. It was great to have my fellow colleagues in the audience as well. I can’t wait the Salesforce marketing skills and spend to be unleashed for platform – maybe at Dreamforce 2017?

It’s e-commerce capabilities were less developed and the recent acquisition of Demandware has changed that picture . Salesforce store / e-commerce capabilities are now more beefed up and legitimate than before, so time for Salesforce customers to look at the offering. Commerce Cloud certainly is the cloud with the most product in Salesforce’s cloud arsenal. Reporting on what happened at the annual Dreamforce conference is a lesson in futility.

The clues I’d been seeing about “artifacts” turned out to be the internal name for a replacement to packaging that formed part of the larger Salesforce DX changes. One of the biggest trends at the start of 2021, was the amount of attention and funding Salesforce DevOps companies were getting. Since the pandemic, companies have become even more reliant on Salesforce as a CRM, and as companies adopt more products, their development efforts and releases get vastly more complicated. While the world was slowly coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Salesforce was busy acquiring companies and working on new initiatives that would shape how Salesforce professionals build on the platform, and how customers engage with Salesforce.

New to Salesforce?

In 2018, Salesforce acquired several companies, including MuleSoft, a cloud service company, for $6.5 billion, as well as Rebel, an email services provider, and Datorama, an AI marketing platform, for undisclosed amounts. In 2014, the company released Trailhead, a free online learning platform. In October 2014, Salesforce announced the development of its Customer Success Platform.

The suit alleges that the company profited from and helped build technology that facilitated sex trafficking on Backpage.com, a now defunct website. In March 2021, a judge granted partial dismissal of the case, dismissing charges of negligence and conspiracy, but allowed the case to proceed regarding charges of sex trafficking. On August 24, 2022, Salesforce reported its nd quarter earnings of $7.72 Billion. Upon the German software firm SAP reporting its earnings for the same quarter totaling to €7.52 Billion, Acceleration Economy reported that Salesforce had surpassed SAP to become the world’s largest enterprise software vendor.

Einstein took center stage, and certainly was a ‘must do’ announcement for Salesforce – given the announcements by the competition in the same area. But the real advancements, with short and longer term effect are on the platform side – the move to Heroku / AWS. So it is good news for Salesforce customers that a potential end of the dual infrastructure reality is in sight, a move to AWS / Heroku can only help customers. More modern development, DevOps tools, best practices like CI / CD become tangible now, very important to make sure Salesforce not only remains an attractive and viable platform, but also to make its SaaS applications more innovative.

You may have only just heard about the Salesforce Ohana, with a recent push to involve not only the employees of Salesforce, but the global community they had created. But the Salesforce Ohana has been around from the very beginning, with wearing Hawaiian shirts into work to instill the culture and a Hawaiian-themed launch party for Salesforce.com going public in June 2004. When Salesforce succeeds in running the force apps on AWS, it will change its need to invest into, build, operate and maintain data centers. A very important move that should ultimately allow Salesforce to put more R&D on product development, but also help customers with more local instances of Salesforce, which helps both with performance and data residency requirements.
